Chromecasting for Android How To's, Supported Models, and Troubleshooting 

Are all Chromecasts supported?

At this time, we are currently only supported through the Chromecast device, 3rd Generation. We are not supported for any built-in casting options on TV's, including built-in Chromecast. You will need a separate Chromecast device to cast Pure Flix to your TV.

How do I cast from my Android to my Chromecast?

You can cast from your supported Android device to your external Chromecast by doing the following:

  1. Go to your supported Android devices home screen.

  2. Go to the Google Play store on your Android device.

  3. Search for the Pure Flix app.

  4. Click on the Pure Flix app in the Play Store.

  5. Click on “Install” in the Play Store.

  6. Once you have completed the download go back to the play store to download the Chromecast app.

  7. Go to the Google Play Store.

  8. Search for the Chromecast app.

  9. Click on the Chromecast app in the Play Store.

  10. Click on “Install” in the Play Store.

  11. Once you have completed the download, verify that both the Android device and the Chromecast are connected to the same WiFi.

  12. Open the Pure Flix app.

  13. Click on the Chromecast icon in the upper right of the screen.

  14. Then select your Chromecast device.

  15. Select a title and tap play to start casting.

How do I resolve the issues on casting to my Android device?

If you are experiencing an issue with casting to your Android device please try resolving the issue with the following steps:

Step 1: Test Your Internet Connection

  1. Open the Google Chrome app on your Android device.
  2. Go to google.com
  3. Search "Speedtest"
  4. Click on "Start Speed Test"
  5. Once the test has finished, check that your download speed matches our minimum requirements.

(Note: If your internet speed is below 0.5mbps, please contact your internet provider in regards to your internet speed).

Step 2: Force Quit the Pure Flix App

  1. Go to the home screen on your device.
  2. Go to settings on your device.
  3. Click on applications.
  4. Click on Manage Applications.
  5. Click on All.
  6. Click on the Pure Flix app.
  7. Click the Clear Cache option.

Step 3: Clear the Pure Flix App Cache

  1. Go to the home screen on your device.
  2. Go to settings on your device.
  3. Go to Applications.
  4. Go to Manage Applications.
  5. Click “All”.
  6. Click on Pure Flix.
  7. Press the Clear Cache option.

Step 4: Delete and Reinstall the Pure Flix App

  1. Go to the home screen on your device.
  2. Go to settings on your device.
  3. Go to Applications.
  4. Go to Manage Applications.
  5. Click “All”.
  6. Click on Pure Flix.
  7. Click Uninstall.

After the uninstallation is complete do the following

  1. Go to the home screen on your device
  2. Go to your app store
  3. Search Pure Flix
  4. Click on the Pure Flix app in the app store
  5. Click on “Install”

Once the download is complete, open and sign into Pure Flix. If you are still experiencing issues continue on to the next steps.

Step 5: Delete and Reinstall the Google Home App

  1. Go to the home screen on your device.
  2. Go to settings on your device.
  3. Go to Applications.
  4. Go to Manage Applications.
  5. Click “All”.
  6. Click on Google Home
  7. Click Uninstall.

After the uninstallation is complete do the following

  1. Go to the home screen on your device
  2. Go to your app store
  3. Search Google Home
  4. Click on the Google Home app in the app store
  5. Click on “Install”

Once the download is complete, open and sign into Pure Flix. If you are still experiencing issues continue on to the next steps.

Step 5: Check for Available Updates

  1. Go to the home screen on your device.
  2. Go to settings on your device.
  3. Go to About phone/tablet.
  4. Click on System Updates.

Step 6: Check the Firmware Version of your Chromecast

  • Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  • Touch and hold your device's tile.
  • Tap Settings  and then Device information.
  • Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX."
Step 7: Check the Model of your Chromecast
  • Note - the easiest way to find this is by looking on the back of your Chromecast device where it says Model (EX: RUX-J42)

Step 8: Reboot the Device

  1. Turn off your casting device.
  2. Wait for 1 full minute.
  3. Turn it back on.

Note: Please be certain your device is fully powered off for at least 60 seconds, following onscreen prompts if needed.

How to turn closed captions on/off
  • Play title
  • Tap the Caption Box in the upper right side of screen

Note: The box has no line through it when on and the box has a line through it when off

How to use

Browse all genres:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. From the menu select "Browse All"

Where to change language:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. Tap on "Account" 
  3. Tap on "Select Language"
  4. Select your desired language
  5. Tap on "OK" to confirm

Favorites:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. Tap on "Favorites"
  3. If "Favorites" does not appear as an option, tap on the "email" that is displayed
  4. From the drop down menu, select "Favorites"

Recently viewed:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. Tap on "Recently Viewed" 
  3. If "Recently Viewed" does not appear as an option, tap on the "email" that is displayed
  4. From the drop down menu, select "Recently Viewed"

My account:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. Tap on "Account"

Sign out:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. Tap "Logout"
  3. If "Logout" does not appear as an option, tap on the "email" that is displayed
  4. From the drop down menu, select "Logout"

Search titles:

  1. From the Pure Flix homepage in the app, not the website, tap on the three lines located in the upper left hand corner
  2. Tap on "Search"
  3. Type in at least three letters for search results to populate
  4. Select the desired "Movie Title"

PUREFLIX (used as a Pure Flix Home Key)

  • When this icon is selected, it will redirect you to the "Homepage" of the Pure Flix App
